Last "official" Ortho appointment

Well today was officially my last ortho appointment. He checked my bonded retainers, said they look good, and that I don't need to come back anymore. I mean he wasn't rude. He just said that he wouldn't make me schedule an appointment and that he no longer needed to see me unless I needed to see him. I gave him the double thumbs up sign with a big smile, and said awesome! He laughed and handed me my chart.

For some reason I feel a little sad about not having to go there anymore. I mean, I'm glad everything is all done, but I guess this has all been such a big part of my life for so long, that it seems strange to not have to go to anymore appointments.

All is going well though and feeling continues to improve. It is hard to believe that it has been 14 months now and I'm still healing, but at the same time I'm ever so glad that I am!

Here are a couple of new pics of my ever changing face! LOL..
(They look blurry til you click on them)

Hey Brandie, I had to laugh at your previous post about the eating and the lower lip. My tongue is pretty much on automatic when it comes to drinking -- I use my tongue to feel the bottom of a cup, etc. But still often I find myself dribbling whatever I'm drinking like a 2 year old. Also I still get food on my chin area.
You do look really great by the way.
I don't know if I told you that my ortho had to take the bottom bonded retainer off. Pieces of it kept coming off at the worst times. For some reason the bonding just didn't take. I'm not good about wearing my top retainer either. Right now I'm just waiting for my provision crowns to be placed on my implants. I may then have to do a new retainer for my bottom.
Even though things are winding down, I hope you continue to post. Mary

    Hi Brandy:
Yes, I can definately see how a final ortho appt. would be bittersweet. Thank you for writing about this experience. It is hard to abruptly stop a regular and supportive connection like the one you developed with your ortho and his team. You have tons to celebrate in that your smile is spectacular; it is sad though, that completing this journey as successfully as you have, also means saying goodbye. I have to say, I did cringe when I read that the ortho said"you don't have to come anymore." This comment sounded cold to me, and
I wish he had been less abrupt/blunt with you. I have seen a few of your posts on sleepnet. I hope you can join the MMA get together in Palo Alto this
September. I would love to meet you in person Brandy (I live in the Bay Area). Your blog helped me
gather the courage to begin this long journey (I'm 46 (with apnea) and in need of MMA/GA;just started the ortho part of things).
    Take care,
    Julie

    Hi Brandy,
I'm about to begin my SARPE on the 28th (when they actually break it) right now I am sitting with the appliance already in and trying desperately to get used to it. Just want to say I really enjoyed finding another adult that has done this procedure. Thanks for the blog about it.

My mom keeps getting it stuck :/

    Oh I see.
Do you think it can get stuck though? That is what makes me nervous.

My friend got his stuck and had to go back to his dentist. thats really why I dont let her do it because I dont want my key to be stuck.
