Hard to believe that I will be 8 months post op in about 1 week. Things have been changing a lot the last month. I'm still regaining feeling in my chin and lower lip area. I can now feel my bottom lip with my tongue pretty well, and the swelling has come down quite a bit too. It is starting to feel like my old lip again. Below the surface it is still kindof tingly and numb feeling, but certainly no where near like it used to be. It actually feels like it will eventually be normal again. My chin is feeling much better too. The inside of my left cheek is now less swollen and I'm no longer chomping down on it. I do have some serious sensitivity in my lower gums and teeth on the left side, but other than that things are going well in terms of post jaw surgery recovery.

My sinuses are doing very well also now. I can breath clearly, and they are not all stuffed up anymore. I no longer have a sinus infection which is a big plus, and honestly I'm feeling pretty much back to normal.

I'm still working through my allergy shots and have not had any adverse reactions, thank goodness! I'm also going to the gym regularly. Aside from developing Plantar Faciitus in my left foot due to too many step aerobics classes I'm finally feeling like my old self again. Wooo Hooo!

I'm sleeping, I'm breathing, and I only have to wear my retainer at nights now. What more could a girl ask for?

    Brandy,
I LOVE reading your blog! Especially the part about regaining your feeling, that's great! I really like being able to compare and hear that someone else out there is regaining feeling, ever so slowly but surely, and especially that you describe that "tingly & numb" sensation. For me it feels like numbness interspersed with pins & needles, like you know something is there, but you don't know texture. My BSSO has KILLED my kissing life, but I hope to one day have it back, you give me hope!

    HEy Jen,
I just had to tell you that just last might my husband said that my kissing is getting back to normal now. He said for awhile he felt like he was kissing a maniquin, but now it is soo much better, and that he can tell that my lips are really working again! So...yes there is definitely hope!

Hey Brandie, you look great! And I'm sure it helps that you have such a great attitude. I too continue to regain feeling in my chin ever so slowly but surely. My bottom lip is always tingly but so far, no feeling. But I'm still hopeful. And I'm having my implant surgery next Friday, I'm so excited. My surgeon is doing nerve reposition so I may be more numb again. Oh well, its all worth it as far as I'm concerned. Mary

That's great to hear Brandy!!!! I'm trying doing those "kissing fish" exercises, sorta, when I'm at the gym on the treadmill. I try to blow out through my mouth and purse my lips when I do it. Luckily, nobody is really paying much attention, or I hope so anyways. I don't know if it helps or not but it makes me feel better, like I'm doing "something." Keep up the good work!
